Supporting working parents

Our 8 Point Jobs Plan – #8

Overhauling the childcare system to support working parents

  • childcare-cc-sanshootRemove red tape to reduce cost of child care
  • Support training to encourage in-home child care

Incentives for home-based childcare will be increased to allow wider access to rural childcare. Part-time home-based childcare will become a structure that allows people looking to work two or three days a week to move into this career field.

Opportunities for half-day childcare bookings should be encouraged at all centres, to allow parents working short shifts to access reduced rates and not remove a full day spot from other working parents.

Greater flexibility in child care hours are essential, for parents who work late or early shift – the traditional 9am to 5pm day is no longer a reality.
